Recommendations on Proper Food Storage

Keeping your family safe and healthy begins with proper food storage. It all starts when you come home from the grocery.

For specifics: 

Eggs should be refrigerated and can be used 3 to 5 weeks in refrigerator after the sell by date. Soy sauce, fish sauce or hot sauce will not spoil on counter but refrigerated they have a longer life. Ketchup can be used up to 6 months. Olive oil can be used 18 to 24 months in or out of refrigerator. Butter can be used up to 2 weeks after expiration date.  Spices can last up to 2 – 3 years past expiration date. Deli meat can be used 7 – 10 days after best by date; fresh deli meat only 5 – 6 days in refrigerator. Refrigerating nuts can help keep them edible for up to a year but at room temperature they last 1 to 4 months. Yogurt can be used up to 7 -10 days after the sell date but if mold appears throw it out. Fresh herbs –refrigerate all except for basil. Wrap in damp paper towel then loosely wrap with plastic. Basil turns black when refrigerated. Peanut butter is fresh up to 3 months. Mayonnaise good 2 – 2 months in refrigerator after expiration date.
