Thank you, Food Babe: Vani Hari

As a registered dietitian since 1973, I have always kept up with nutrition and wellness for my whole career. But when I started following the Food Babe, Vani Hari, I asked myself, why didn’t the American Dietetic Association now called the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics deal with food additives and food colors that were destructive to our health even though they were approved by the FDA.

As a registered dietitian, I always embraced what the CDC, US Dietary Guidelines, USDA, NIH promoted until I learned about CORPORATE CAPTURE and the Sick Industrial Complex: Big Pharma, Big Food & Big Ag & how the Sick Industrial Complex were keeping their big profits going by pushing cheap ultra-processed foods, cheap food additives, sugar substitutes, preservatives, food dyes and/or thickeners, many of which cause an addiction and long term health problems with the FDA approving of all these items.

The FOOD BABE to the rescue

It took the Food Babe, Vani Hari, to open my eyes to the harmful effects of many of these food additives! Vani has a great website, www.FoodBabe.com, which contains a massive amount of information about the harmful effects of food additives. On her website, you can download for free Food Babe Special Report: Harmful Food Additives and Healthier Brand Guide which includes shopping lists, recommendations and guidelines. The 54-page free download: Are you eating harmful food additives? is excellent and full of lots of important information from additives in food to additives in nutritional supplements as well.

There is a Food Additive Hit List (detailed in graphic below). Simple Questions Before You Eat like What are the ingredients, are these ingredients nutritious, and where do these ingredients come from, and then questions to ask yourself when you are in each aisle of the grocery store. There is a Cheat Sheet for Reading Pantry Item Labels. An excellent guide to GMO ingredients. The download covers Weight Loss Strategies, Health Supplements, Food Babe Pantry List, Dissecting the Stores (and safe food to buy) like Walmart, Publix, Costco, Trader Joes, etc., and How to Ask Your Store to Carry More Options.

Food Babe Family

For Christmas, I bought myself Vani’s latest book, Food Babe Family, which feature more than 100 recipes which are kid friendly. The book has lots of insights to getting your children to eat healthy foods and lots of food swaps from highly processed foods to healthier alternatives. I highly recommend this book for moms who want to feed their kids healthier foods or grandmothers who want to feed their grandkids healthier good tasting foods when they visit. Many of the recipes are gluten-free as well.

Note: As a dietitian, I would have like to see the nutrients per serving.

The Takeaway

The genie can not be put back in the bottle about all the Corporate Capture which has resulted in a sicker America and all the destructive additives in our foods have caused this sickness. We can only hope this WAKE-UP CALL will make a healthier America by making Americans healthier! Let’s Make America Healthy Again!
